Replace That Large Kitchen Appliance with an Energy Star Appliance |
| 3/29/2008 9:19:06 AM |
Today has been called Earth Hour, and a few cities across the world are turning off their lights for an hour tonight as a gesture that will remind all of us to save energy. Each person on the planet is responsible for saving as much energy as they can to slow the process of global warming, and one good place to start is with large and small kitchen... Read More |

Use the Sun to Fuel Small Kitchen Appliances, Like Solar Ovens |
| 3/24/2008 10:11:46 AM |
I have a great solution for people who want to start using a solar oven to cook, instead of using a nonrenewable heating source, like gas or electric. These small kitchen appliances can come with electric backup, in case the weather turns cloudy or too windy to finish the cooking outside. Simply plug in the device, and finish it up that way.
Solar... Read More |

Small Kitchen Appliances Save Energy |

With the high cost of energy these days, finding ways to conserve it is important to almost everyone, and using small kitchen appliances can help you conserve on your energy costs. For example, a counter top oven uses less electricity than a big oven, so if you want to bake something small, do not heat up that big oven, but instead, use the smaller... Read More |

A Safety Issue With A New Large Kitchen Appliance |
| 3/11/2008 3:51:52 PM |
I have an almost new large kitchen appliance that my husband bought for me several summers ago. I went to visit family for a month, came back to my kitchen and found a brand new stove. I liked my old 1970 large kitchen appliance. My old stove was gas and I could use it when the electricity went out. I didn't mind that the oven light didn't work anymore and that it was a 1970 yellow. My husband decided to get me a new stove while I was out of town. I think he wanted to avoid any arguments with me about purchasing a new large kitchen appliance. With a gas stove, you have to be careful about releasing the gas while lighting the burners. If you release too much gas before lighting the burner, it is possible to have a small fire. With my old stove, the pilot light was always burning and when you turned the dial, the burner would start most of the time. If it didn't light, it was easy to quickly turn it off without starting a small fire. With the new stove, there is no pilot light so the stove uses electricity to light the gas burners. The way the dial is set up, if I misfire the burner, I need to turn the electricity on before I can turn it off, and have almost started a small fire several times. Oh, it scares me. Is there a better way to set up the gas burners on this large kitchen appliance? |
